Vox in Bestia

Dante's bestiary and its countless poetic resonances is the pivot around which "Vox in bestia", the new project by Laura Catrani, revolves, conceived on the occasion of the seven hundredth anniversary of Dante's death. From each of the three canticles emerge three poetic places in which Dante's animals possess a strong symbolic charge. The texts are sung for solo voice by three different composers: Fabrizio de Rossi Re for the Inferno, Matteo Franceschini for the Purgatorio, and Alessandro Solbiati for the Paradiso. Each of the nine scenes is introduced by a literary miniature that tells the symbolic essence of each of Dante's animals, composed for the occasion by Tiziano Scarpa, one of the most original voices of contemporary Italian fiction. Interwoven with the song, Dante's animals take life and form through the visionary original video animations of Gianluigi Toccafondo.
